Barzini's Italiano
The Legend of Luciano Barzini
As the story goes, Don Barzini, the antagonist in the 1972 film classic The Godfather, had a grandson, Luciano Barzini. Growing up in Statin Island Luciano loved watching his father and mother cook often begging them to let him help! After biting his mother's hand to get her attention while cooking she knew she could no longer ignore his wishes to help with the family's meals. Luciano's father wanted a better life for his only son, than he had, so he encouraged Luciano's dream of being a chef. Luciano enrolled in a Culinary Arts program in the Bronx where he excelled immediately! In the arts program there was an aspiring chef-to-be named Carmela Antonelli. She and Luciano would become instant friends and marry 6 months later.
On the day they found out Carmela was pregnant there was an attempt on his father's life. Luciano's father would survive this attempt but suggested to his son that they move his family closer to Carmela's hometown for their safety. The young couple would relocate to a small town in Minnesota where would start their new life. Years later Luciano, 'Lo Scorpione' would open his first restaurant, 'Barzini's Italian Depot', in Coon Rapids. The doors opened March 3rd 2020 but had to close 13 days later due to the pandemic. Not to be deterred, Luciano would sell take out to pay the rent until things improved. After restrictions were lifted, the young couple would purchase G's Cafe in Anoka and transform it to Barzini's Italiano. And thus the 'The Legend of Barzini's' and Barzini's Italiano were born!
